Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Thursday 29.04.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Use caution on slopes with recently formed wind slabs. Areas without new snow will have safe travel conditions.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 28. April 2021

Mountain weather

Wednesday 28. April 2021

1-3 mm precipitation. Breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -8 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 29. April 2021

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
